Note: These setup instructions apply only if you're using the Vouchers and Gift Cards module.

Gift cards are popular, particularly around holidays, and offering them through all your sales channels can help you meet customer expectations and allow your frequent customers to bring in new business for you.

Before you begin

Decide what gift cards you want to offer, such as $10, $20, and $50. Then, contact Veezi support with your list. Veezi support will make sure your system is ready for gift cards, and provide the voucher codes you'll use to create the gift card voucher types.

Create a Voucher Type for gift cards

1. Log in to Veezi.
2. Go to Additional Modules > Vouchers and Gift Cards and click Manage.
3. Click Create Voucher Type.
4. Enter a name that identifies the gift card, such as "$10 Gift Card."
   

   Tip: Include the gift card value in the name for clarity. This practice is particularly important for any gift cards that you'll sell online.

5. Enter the six-character, numeric code provided by Veezi. This code is used as the first six characters of all barcodes generated for this voucher type. Typically, gift card codes use 0 as the first digit.
6. Select Gift Card in the Type of Voucher field.

Important! After you click Save, you can no longer change the code or type. If you need alternate settings in these fields, you'll need to create a new Voucher Type record. The rest of the settings described in this article can be set and edited before or after saving.

Set expiration rules for the gift card

1. Select how the expiry date is calculated.
   • Calculate on sale: The gift card expires and can no longer be redeemed after a set length of time from the date on which it is sold.
   • Calculate on printing: The gift card expires and can no longer be redeemed after a set length of time from the date on which it is issued.
   • No expiry: The gift card never expires.
     

     Tip: Set an expiration date to encourage customers to attend a session sooner rather than later. Selling a gift card is revenue, but a subsequent visit to the cinema is your opportunity to turn a gift card holder into a regular guest.

     Important! Some countries require a minimum expiration period for gift cards. Be sure you understand any applicable regulations and configure these settings appropriately before you begin selling gift cards.

2. In the Validity period length field, enter a number. Then, select either Days or Months to determine how long the gift card is valid based on your expiry date calculation choice.
3. If you specified a number of months in step 2, you can turn on Set the expiry dates to the end of the month to have gift cards expire at the end of the month determined by your expiry date calculation choice.
4. Optionally, turn on Sales channel can override expiry date on sale to give your POS operators the ability to adjust set an expiration date when they sell this type of gift card.

Specify redemption rules for the gift card (optional)

1. Enter minimum and maximum redemption values to limit what customers can spend in a single transaction. For example, enter a minimum value of 1 to prevent customers from using a gift card to make payments of less than $1, or a maximum of 20 to prevent customers from using a gift card to make payments of more than $20.
   

   Note: The most common minimum value is $0. Setting a maximum value can help you detect and prevent fraud. Choose a value high enough that it won't inconvenience the majority of your customers but will stop suspiciously large transactions.

2. Select any sales channels in which customers can spend the gift card.
   

   Note: The All other check box is always selected to ensure you can sell gift cards online.

3. Select Extend on Redemption to have the expiry date extended whenever the gift card is used. When you select this option, the expiry date is recalculated according to your settings each time the gift card is used, with the most recent redemption date used in place of the original sold or issued date.
4. Select Allow Cashout to give customers the option of redeeming the gift card for cash.
5. Select Allow partial approval to enable split payments, in which customers use all or part of the gift card value along with another form of payment to cover the full cost of a purchase.

Configure pricing

1. Go to the Base Pricing tab.
   

   Note: The Base Pricing tab appears only after you save the Voucher Type record.

2. Choose one of the following activation pricing options and enter values in the corresponding fields:
   • Fixed: Fixed-price gift cards have a single value that you specify. For example, $20. You can sell this type of gift card in any of your sales channels.
   • Variable: Variable-price gift cards can have any value between the minimum and maximum that you specify. For example, you could set a $5 minimum and a $100 maximum, and a POS operator could sell $10, $20, or $50 gift cards.
     

     Important! You can't sell variable-price gift cards in the Veezi online gift shop.

3. Optionally, turn on Allow recharge to allow gift card holders to add value to cards. 
   • Enter minimum and maximum values. Gift card holders can add any value including and between the values you specify. 
   • Optionally, turn on Extend validity period on recharge to have the expiration date extended whenever value is added to the gift card. Then, specify a number of days or months that the expiration date will be extended beyond the originally calculated expiration date.
     

     Tip: Customers often expect that adding value to a gift card will reset the expiration timeline, so we recommend selecting this setting.

4. Click Save.

Note: When you create a variable-price gift card, you can set minimum and maximum values that are different from those you specify for recharges. For example, you set a minimum of $20 for an initial gift card purchase, but allow customers to add $5 at a time for recharges.
